A comparison of British and North African varieties of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea). II. Growth during winter and survival at low temperatures.
Abstract
During the winter 1963-64 the North African synthetic variety, SynII, showed a greater relative growth rate than the British S170. Of two north temperate and seven Mediterranean varieties tested for cold resistance the two northern ones showed the greater resistance. In particular S170 was hardier than SynII, showing an inverse relationship between the ability of varieties to survive at low temperatures and their ability to grow rapidly during the winter.
