Improvement of red acid sands by the Neem tree (Azadirachta indica) in Sokoto, north-western state of Nigeria.
Abstract
Analytical data (tabulated) show that A. indica has considerably improved the nutrient content and physical condition of the infertile acid sands on which it has been planted in this area. The tree also provides shelter, fuel and timber, and has medicinal uses. Its value in a rotational system of agricultural cropping is suggested.
