Resistance to water flow in soil and plant. 2. A review of experimental evidence on the rhizosphere resistance.
Abstract
Results of some experiments on a range of species, including maize, birdsfoot trefoil, perennial ryegrass, meadow foxtail and intermediate wheatgrass, did not appear to be in accordance with the claim that appreciable rhizosphere resistances occurred in soil much wetter than the permanent wilting point. The results appeared not to conflict with the conclusion [H.A. 39: 2180] that for many species the rhizosphere resistance would not become appreciable until near or beyond permanent wilting.-R.B.
