Identification of standard and compact apple trees by discriminant function analysis.
Abstract
Discriminant functions for discriminating between standard and compact mutants of young Delicious apple trees were computed on the basis of 5 simple measurements, i.e. the length-to-thickness ratio of 1-year-old wood, and the spur number, total length of branch, thickness at the 10th node, and length-to-thickness ratio of 2-year-old wood. The methods may be used in selecting compact types from variable populations.-Univ. B.C., Vancouver.
