A classification of East African rangeland. 2. The water balance as a guide to site potential.
Abstract
For Kenya, maps of annual water availability indices, representing the mean total precipitation available for transpiration as a percentage of the annual potential evaporation from an open water surface were generally in agreement with the ecological classification of Pratt et al 1966. From a consideration of soil depth and soil type, allowance is made for storage of water within the root range of the profile. Limitations of the data are discussed.
