Regional differences in the deposition of heavy metals over Scandinavia.
Abstract
Metal concentrations in Hypnum cupressiforme, Hylocomium splendens and Sphagnum magellanicum from different parts of Scandinavia were studied. The concentrations of Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb and Zn in Hypnum cupressiforme increased from the North East to the South West of Sweden. Concentrations in Sphagnum magellanicum on ombrotrophic bog-land coincided well with concentrations in Hylocomium splendens from woodland sites of the same area. The deposition of heavy metals/ha/year was calculated.
