Variation in growth and development in natural populations of Dactylis glomerata from Norway and Portugal. II. Leaf development and tillering.
Abstract
Leaf expansion and tillering of three natural populations from Norway and one from Portugal were studied at three temperatures and two photoperiods. The main differences between populations were found at 5°C with an 8-h photo-period where the Portuguese population had a higher rate of leaf expansion than Norwegian populations. Population differences in tiller number were also greatest at 5°C, the Portuguese population having more tillers than the Norwegian population.
