Variation in growth and development in natural populations of Dactylis glomerata from Norway and Portugal. 1. Growth analysis.
Abstract
3 populations of cocksfoot from Norway and 1 from Portugal were grown at 5, 15 or 25°C with 8 or 24 h light/day. In short days at low temperature, the Norwegian material showed reduced leaf expansion and assimilates were diverted to leaf bases and roots, whereas in Portuguese cocksfoot there was continued active leaf expansion. At 25°C the relative performance of the 2 groups was reversed.
