A physiological and mathematical study of the growth and productivity of a Calluna-Sphagnum community. 2. Light interception and photosynthesis in Calluna.
Abstract
Light interception by a reconstructed canopy of Calluna vulgaris was recalculated on the basis of total skylight and equations developed to estimate interception by widely spaced clusters of shoots and by a continuous canopy. Using data on photosynthesis of individual shoots [see HbA 41, 494] and further data obtained using diffuse illumination, it was possible to estimate total photosynthesis for clusters of shoots in any illumination situation.
