A physiological and mathematical study of growth and productivity of a Calluna-Sphagnum community. 4. A model of growing Calluna.
Abstract
A model to generate growth curves and production estimates for Calluna vulgaris at Moor House National Nature Reserve (in N. England at 560 m alt.) is described. The model is based on laboratory measurements of photosynthesis, field measurements of assimilate distribution and climatological records. The performance of the model is compared with independent observations made on Calluna in the field and shown to agree favourably. The model exhibits pronounced temperature sensitivity which can be demonstrated to be a property of Calluna in the field.
