The viable weed seed content of some tropical agricultural soils.
Abstract
The viable weed seed content of the surface soil at 78 sites in the upper Belize Valley, British Honduras, averaged 6488 seeds/m2 and included 54 species [listed]. A few species from the buried seed population showed a spatial association with the extant weed vegetation. In general, viable seed density and species numbers showed little relationship to field age, usage or soil conditions. It is concluded that the viable seed population at each site is the result of many complex factors that could not be adequately determined in the present study. From summary.
