The introduction of Neodusmetia sangwani (Rao) (Hymenoptera: Encyrtidae) into Israel for the control of the rhodesgrass scale, Antonina graminis (Maskell) (Homoptera: Pseudococcidae).
Abstract
Since indigenous natural enemies of Antonina graminis (Mask.) do not appear to control the pest in Israel. The hymenopterous parasite Neodusmetia sangwani (Rao) was introduced from Texas, mass-reared on field-collected A. graminis and released. It became established at several sites, attacking up to 87% of susceptible scale insects. Increases in yields of Rhodesgrass (Chloris gayana) were recorded at the release sites. Procedures for further releases are outlined.
