Changes in populations of Toxoptera aurantii (Boy.) (Homoptera: Aphididae) on cocoa in Ghana.
Abstract
The seasonal changes in populations of Toxoptera aurantii (Boy.) on the flush leaves (new leaves on the shoots) and chupons (vegetative shoots arising from the base of the main stem) of cacao seedlings were determined in studies in eastern Ghana in 1973. Population fluctuations corresponded with flushing, which occurred at 10-12 week intervals. The aphid had 28 generations a year at Tafo and 25 at Kitase; this variation was thought to be due to temperature differences between the localities.
