Small weighable lysimeters for grazed pastures.
Abstract
The type of lysimeter described consisted of a galvanized steel vessel 47 cm diameter and 60 cm deep containing a soil monolith and resting in a hole 49 cm diameter lined with a steel lining sleeve and set flush with the pasture. The lysimeter was hoisted for weighing by lifting on 4 lugs. Lysimeter components, jigs and weighing system are described and illustrated. Principal-component analysis of changes in soil water content measured using lysimeters and a neutron moisture meter over 4 successive periods indicated that one method could be substituted for the other.
