Effects of plantation forestry on birds in New Zealand.
Abstract
Relative densities of birds, vegetation profiles and bird food resources were assessed in 7 exotic conifer plantations (6 Pinus radiata,1 Pseudotsuga menziesii) and 5 areas of native Nothofagus (N. fusca, N. truncata, N. menziesii, N. solandri). Native birds that suffered most from replacement of native forest with conifer plantations were frugivores, nectar-feeders and hole-nesters.
