Effects of nutrient enrichment in Dutch chalk grassland.
Abstract
In field trials at Gerendal and Wrakelberg in 1984-86, swards containing 30-40% Brachypodium pinnatum (measured in 1983) were given no fertilizer or 10 g N, 3 g P or 10 g K/m2 per year or N + P + K in the stated quantities. Total aboveground phytomass in 1986 increased with N and NPK application. B. pinnatum aboveground phytomass increased with N or NPK at Wrakelberg and with N at Gerendal. Legume aboveground phytomass increased with P, and that of other grasses increased with NPK at both sites.
