Changes in the vegetation at Coom Rigg Moss national nature reserve within the period 1958-86.
Abstract
The area surrounding Coom Rigg Moss (a peatland National Nature Reserve) was planted with conifers in the 1950s. The results of surveys conducted in 1957-59 and in Aug. 1986, using the same methods, were used to assess vegetational changes. Data are presented on percentage frequencies, changes and significance of changes for 53 species, and on av. percentage frequencies of 52 species in groups produced after 3 divisions of TWINSPAN. Vegetation changes are discussed in relation to possible causes such as hydrology and land use. Implications of these changes are discussed in relation to management problems in peatland sites.
