Evaluation of capercaillie habitat.
Abstract
A method for measuring the structure of capercaillie (Tetrao urogallus) habitat was developed and the relation between habitat structure and capercaillie numbers assessed in 15 forests/plantations (dominated by Scots pine, Pinus sylvestris, or Sitka spruce, Picea sitchensis) in Scotland in 1989-91. Implications for management are discussed.
