Abstract
This paper highlights the importance of integrating scientific evidence into environmental policy and practice, such as evidence-based decision-making helps to avoid bias, increase transparency and increase effectiveness; systematic reviews and synopses focus on scientific evidence synthesis and critical appraisal; synopses and decision support tools aim to present scientific evidence in an easily understandable and accessible way; scientific evidence is just one factor within a decision; solutions to improve research use include changes at individual and institutional levels and beyond; and collaborations and knowledge exchange between scientists and policy makers are key.
