An introduction to evidence-based conservation (content tailored for decision-makers).
Abstract
This publication discusses the complex nature of environmental decisions and answers the following questions: (i) what is scientific evidence and why it is important, (ii) how is scientific evidence used in conservation, (iii) what are the barriers to scientific evidence use in conservation, and (iv) how are these barriers being addressed? The synthesis of evidence to support management decisions are explained, including systematic reviews, systematic maps, summaries, and decision support tools. Other solutions to using scientific evidence in decisions are mentioned.
