A literature review of urban effects on lowland heaths and their wildlife.
Abstract
This paper reviews the urban effects on Dorset lowland heathlands and their wildlife. This urban public access places considerable pressures on the heaths, for example through disturbance, wild fires, trampling, predation by domestic pets, pollution and enrichment. A number of studies have examined urban effects on lowland heathlands and these, together with two case studies at Canford Heath SSSI in Dorset and two studies at Yateley Common SSSI in Hampshire, are included in this review.
