Defining Favourable Conservation Status Project: Definition of Favourable Conservation Status for lowland calcareous grassland.
Abstract
This document outlines Natural England's perspective on achieving favorable conservation status for lowland calcareous grassland in England. Favorable conservation status represents the minimum threshold for ensuring the sustainable thriving of the habitat and its associated species. The definition is based on Natural England's approach as described in the guidance document "Defining Favourable Conservation Status in England." It includes sections on the habitat covered, units used to describe conservation status parameters (natural range and distribution, extent, structure and function attributes), evidence considered during development, and conclusions on favorable parameter values. Notably, the document does not include action planning but focuses solely on defining favorable conservation status, with action plans to be presented separately.
