National Environment Monitoring Conference Introduction.
Abstract
This meeting aims to enhance the visibility of the extensive environmental monitoring evidence base, making it accessible to a broader community of researchers and practitioners. It seeks to identify gaps and opportunities in current monitoring activities to foster a more cohesive and collaborative community. A key focus is improving integration across multiple dimensions: among the four nations of the UK, across different environmental assets such as air, soil, water, climate, and biodiversity, and between national and local or landscape-level monitoring approaches. Additionally, the meeting emphasizes bridging various methodologies, including traditional fieldwork, advanced sensors, remote sensing, modeling, and innovative techniques like eDNA, to create a more comprehensive and unified monitoring framework.
