Abstract
This presentation focuses on the UK's rural air quality monitoring efforts, aiming to enhance understanding of air pollutant composition, deposition, and impacts on ecosystems, while validating atmospheric transport models. Monitoring is conducted through specialized networks like NAMN, AGANet, and Precip-Net, alongside supersites such as Chilbolton Observatory and Auchencorth Moss. Key findings highlight ongoing challenges with ammonia and ozone, significant reductions in nitrogen oxides and sulphur dioxide, and the need to address emerging pollutants. The presentation calls for integrated approaches, including using bioindicators, linking real-time data to pollution sources, and collaboration with water and soil scientists to better capture air pollution dynamics and its ecological impacts.
