Met Office (MO), Tom Butcher.
Abstract
This presentation highlights the Met Office's role in climate and weather monitoring through extensive observation networks covering land, marine, upper air, and satellite data. With a global composite observing system generating over 10 billion observations daily, it emphasizes the importance of international collaborations, such as with the World Meteorological Organisation and EUMETSAT, for data sharing. The presentation also addresses the increasing demand for high-density observational data driven by AI and enhanced forecasting capabilities, urging partnerships to leverage third-party and opportunistic data. It advocates for integrating weather and climate observations into broader environmental monitoring programs to improve forecasts, warnings, and climate services.
