Abstract
This presentation discusses the concept of "National Capability" in environmental monitoring, focusing on how it benefits the UK research community, governments, businesses, and society by providing integrated data, models, and tools. The main aim is to address critical national challenges, including hydro-climate extremes, land use and net-zero goals, pollution, and biodiversity through monitoring and modelling. The approach incorporates a variety of methods such as field studies, citizen science, satellite data, and advanced modelling to generate open access, high-quality data. The future focus is on better serving diverse user needs, fostering strategic collaboration across the UK governments, and creating a more integrated environmental monitoring community to support impactful policy outcomes.
