Environmental Change Network (ECN), Don Monteith.
Abstract
This presentation focuses on the UK Environmental Change Network (ECN) and its efforts to monitor short-term and long-term changes in UK ecosystems across various physical, chemical, and biological aspects. Since 1993, the ECN has tracked key environmental factors, including weather, air pollution, soil chemistry, water chemistry, vegetation, and invertebrates, to better understand the drivers of environmental change, such as climate and air pollution, and their impacts on biodiversity and natural resources. The monitoring has revealed significant trends, such as rising air temperatures and changes in atmospheric pollution. The presentation also emphasizes the potential for further integration of monitoring efforts through emerging technologies and international collaborations, like the eLTER European Research Infrastructure, to enhance our understanding of long-term ecological changes on a continental scale.
