Abstract
This presentation introduces the Terrestrial Natural Capital and Ecosystem Assessment (tNCEA), a cornerstone of Defra's R&D programme designed to revolutionize how the UK values and manages its natural assets. Informed by influential environmental reports like the Dasgupta Review, tNCEA focuses on collecting comprehensive environmental data across diverse habitats, species, and ecosystems, leveraging advanced tools, remote sensing, and community involvement. Funded with a significant £200 million commitment, it aims to produce high-quality, standardized natural capital assessments at uniform scales and timelines. The presentation emphasizes the need for greater integration across devolved administrations, local ecological surveys, and the broader ecological community to maximize the program's potential for sustainable environmental stewardship.
