BES Science Slam

A highlight of the BES Annual Meeting social calendar, our Science Slam is a showcase of the most creative and hilarious science communication.

Science Slam 2015 -Dr Tom Oliver performing 'Climate change denier'

Fusing theatre and science, a Science Slam is a competition where scientists take to the stage to show their passion for science in exciting and unconventional ways. In past years we’ve seen alien strippers, singing frogs, and chocolate cake caterpillars take to the stage. Contact Chris chrisj@bes.brightminded.com if you would like to discuss your ideas to perform in future!

Thinking of performing?

It’s never too early to think of your act for #BES2019. Whether you’re a poet, comedian, dancer, or general dynamic story teller – if it’s communicating your science in an unconventional way, we want YOU to be part of our Annual Meeting Science Slam!

Check out the performances from our previous Science Slammers:

Control, control, we have a problem!

The Science Slam 2015 winner Rosie Woodroffe, featured a snowball-throwing moose and a Masai warrior to help explain the crucial – but frequently misunderstood – concept of the scientific control.
