We are proud to boast six highly respected Wildlife Photographers on our Photographic Competition judging panel
Our panel of judges includes both eminent ecologists and award winning professional wildlife photographers.
Gabriela Staebler is a German Photographer whose love and passion for wildlife is mainly for the wilderness of Africa, about which she has published several coffee table-books. She has been working for 30 years as a professional Wildlife Photographer, achieving many award-winning National Geographic photographer works, and working for international magazines, books and calendars.
Laura Dyer grew up in South Africa and developed a passion for wildlife photography and the natural world while studying at university, spending all her holidays on safari honing her skills. She has an affinity for animal portraits, and a special love of leopards. When not in Africa she can be found living in the UK, or travelling the world in search of wildlife.
Matt is an underwater photographer and marine biologist. Most of his work is based in the UK with a focus on conservation, often offering new perspectives on both familiar and forgotten species. Matt’s images and film have been published online, in international books, newspapers and magazines and have featured on television. Matt’s photography has won several major competitions including the British Wildlife Photography Awards in 2012 and the British Underwater Photography Award in 2015.
James Shooter is a photographer based in the Cairngorms National Park, Scotland. As a director of the Wild Media Foundation he works as part of a small team of media professionals to bring nature’s stories to life. He is currently working on an in-house project entitled SCOTLAND: The Big Picture, where their focus is to inform, inspire and influence fresh thinking that amplifies the case for a wilder Scotland.
People and Nature Category Guest Judge: Dr Stephanie Januchowsi-Hartley
Dr Stephanie Januchowsi-Hartley is a Sêr Cymru Rising Star Fellow at the School of Biosciences, Swansea University, UK. Drawing upon natural and social sciences, Stephanie is motivated to solve pressing global conservation problems. As a dedicated researcher and educator she has worked around the globe to improve our understanding about the conservation of freshwater ecosystems, and about the relationships between humans and nature. She shares her passion for freshwater ecosystems through art and writing, and is also a keen photographer.
Jules is a British wildlife photographer, with a passion for the wildlife and wildernesses of the British Isles and frozen North. His work is published widely, both here in the UK and internationally. He is a regular contributor to BBC Wildlife Magazine, with a number of cover images.
