Annual Meeting Helpers

Due to the overwhelming number of submissions we have received, applications to become a helper at Ecology Across Borders have now CLOSED.

Notification if successful: Wednesday 20 September

Please note, places are limited. If a high volume of applications is experienced, places will be made on a first come first serve basis.

Helpers are expected to assist the conference staff 50% of time at the meeting (this does not include the conference dinner). You will be asked to pay 100% of the concession registration fee as a deposit, of which 50% will be refunded before the meeting if you are successful in being selected as a volunteer, and the remaining 50% after the meeting, subject to the Code of Conduct.

Please note that these positions are primarily for students and retired members that wish to attend the meeting, however please do contact BES Grants & Events Officer, Siri McDonnell, if you have any questions.

Taking part as a helper in EAB2017 has been a unique experience for me. I have learnt the true meaning of collaboration: societies, ecologists, students and many others who care about making this planet a better place getting to know how we can best interact and work together. This continues to lead me through a path of awareness that scientists do not work for narrow scientific benefits but for wider societal benefits. Being a helper at the EAB2017 meeting is an unbelievable and unforgettable experience. In addition to attend lots of high-quality talks and plenaries and to meet wonderful people from many countries, I saw the event’s backstage and enjoyed meeting the AV staff, meeting new friends among the helpers and organizers, and discussing with the Chairs. It was also so great to be able to help many people (from students to senior researchers) and to see them gratefully smiling when they were provided information. The atmosphere at EAB2017 was as warm as the streets of Ghent were snowy and icy.
