We are pleased to announce our first grant writing retreat for mid-career ecologists. Designed to focus on funding calls over £500,000 and into the millions, this event is aimed at anyone currently or soon to apply to ERC, NERC, BBSRC or other large grant making bodies.

This 3 day retreat is being held on Wednesday 1 to Friday 3 March 2017, hosted at the Royal Society, Chicheley Hall.

Our confirmed speakers are:

Successful ERC funded researchers Dr Emma Sayer (Lancaster University) and Dr Zoe Davies (University of Kent)

NERC funded researcher Prof Alistair Boxall (University of York) and NERC review panel Chair Prof Chris Thomas (Aberystwyth University).

With additional speakers and representatives from Research Councils in the UK and Europe, we’re putting together a programme to provide you with all the support you need in getting that first big grant.

Outline Schedule

Wednesday 1 March.  Arrive for lunch, 12:30
We will consider ‘Am I ready?’ in a workshop to include reviewing CV’s, H Index, rankings, networks and individual contexts. In the evening we will look at balancing Innovation and Risk and addressing the criteria of grant making bodies.

Thursday 2 March
Throughout the day delegates will be encouraged to share ideas, develop their ideas through facilitated workshops focusing on the application process section by section and take time to apply the learning to their own grant applications.

Friday 3 March. Depart after lunch
During the course of the morning, delegates have time and space to focus in on their own applications, applying the lessons learned during the preceding two days.  Most of our speakers and facilitators are on hand to offer their advice throughout the morning.

Booking

The retreat costs £520 for members and £580 for non-members. This includes all catering and accommodation costs for the full stay.
